BIO

Daniela Krtsch (b.1972, in Göttingen, Germany) lives and works in Lisbon, and has been exhibiting consistently in individual and group exhibitions since 2000.

Krtsch studied painting and engraving at the Ar.Co – Centro de Arte e Comunicação Visual, Lisbon1998-2003. In 2005 received the prize for Best Videoclip, Qwartz Awards in Paris, France for Fully Connected/Microaudiowaves;
2003 represented Portugal at the Young Creatives Biennal in Athens, Greece;

.
Krtsch uses painting, photography and sculpture creating dialogues and suspended narratives – derived from memories, personal and fabricated experiences – investigating the tensions between the realms of reality and fiction.

The exploration of themes are highlighted through her various modes of practice – although predominantly known for her oil on canvas paintings which engage the viewer with their whymiscal and yet sinister subjects, she also creates characters from Plasticine constructing scenarios which reiterate her central themes, often resulting in series of photographic works.
